The County of Wetaskiwin Public Works Department is proud to announce the successful completion of approximately $18 million in capital projects in 2025. These investments reflect our ongoing commitment to improving infrastructure, enhancing safety, and supporting community development.
Road Construction
Several major road projects were completed this year, including:
- Range Road 10: 9.6 km rehabilitated between Highway 13 and Township Road 452.
- Range Road 262: Ditching and road-width improvements in select areas between Highway 13 and Township Road 464.
- Township Road 472 (West of Highway 22): 3.2 kilometers of new road constructed and opened in October 2025.
- Range Road 12: ½ mile reconstructed to a paved non-ban surface near Lakedell Waste Transfer Station.
- Alder Flats: Major upgrades including brushing, ditching, culverts, road base repairs, approach reconstruction, and signage completed in October; final paving and line painting scheduled for spring 2026.
- Township Road 472 (Adjacent to BevEtta Subdivision): Reclamation and cement stabilization completed; chip seal scheduled for spring 2026.
- Township Road 460: 1.6 km rehabilitated between Range Road 235 and Range Road 234, including existing asphalt pulverization and re-gravelling.
- Roadside brushing: Dozens of locations cleared to improve drainage, sightlines, and road stability.
- Traffic Counting Initiative: Identified vehicle movements to provide empirical data for future road improvements.
- Rural Address Signs: 628 blue signs replaced across the County.
Grading and Gravel Programs
- Enhanced Grading Program: 35 km completed (exceeding the original target by 15 km) to restore road width and reduce maintenance needs.
- 2025 Gravel Program: Finished ahead of schedule in mid-October, achieving the goal of gravelling one-third of local roads.
Bridge Construction
- Bridge File 75497: Bridge-sized culvert was replaced with an engineered sized pipe to alleviate localized flooding.
- Bride File 00168: Replacement on Township Road 470 West of HWY 2A currently in the design phase with construction planned for early 2026.
Utility Upgrades
Significant progress was also made on utility infrastructure:
- Village West Estates Wastewater Lift Station: Commissioning completed.
- Winfield Sewage Lagoon Upgrade: Finalized with desludging, installation of a new subsurface underdrain, polyethylene liner, and valve/piping improvements. The lagoon is now fully operational.
These accomplishments demonstrate the dedication of the Public Works team and our contractors in delivering essential infrastructure improvements. The County of Wetaskiwin remains committed to building safer, stronger roads and utilities for our residents.
