The Provincial and Federal Governments have announced support for farmers and ranchers dealing with drought. Programs and details may evolve. The Ag-info Centre can connect producers to many programs, call 310-FARM (3276). To keep aware of opportunities, here are some websites to monitor:
- AgriRecovery and other business risk management programs administered by AFSC - Income Stabilization
- Livestock Tax Deferral – County of Wetaskiwin is in the prescribed region
- Alberta Agriculture dedicated webpage for ‘Farming in dry conditions’ – Information and tools to assist with on-farm business management and production issues during dry conditions and periods of business stress.
- Water pumping program
- Extreme Heat Resources to Assist with Animal Care (Alberta Farm Animal Care)
- Putting poor crops to good use
Most importantly, look after your own health and well-being. Resources for stress management are also listed on Alberta Agriculture’s ‘Farming in dry conditions’ webpage and the Do More Agriculture Foundation.
