Position Summary

The County of Wetaskiwin is seeking a permanent part-time Transfer Station Attendant for the Mulhurst Transfer Station. Reporting to the Utilities Foreman, the successful candidate will be responsible for operation of the Mulhurst Solid Waste Transfer Station.

Regular hours of work are Tuesdays and Saturdays, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Thursdays, Seasonal May 1 – October 31, 12 p.m. – 8 p.m. or as required.

Responsibilities

Maintain records of transfer station users.
Direct user where to dispose of solid waste.
Assist with enforcement of the transfer station and landfill rules and regulations.
Ensure hazardous/environmental waste and recyclables are segregated properly.
Keeping the transfer station tidy and clear of waste while reporting irregularities or damages.
Opening and closing of site.
Complete quarterly site inspections.

Requirements

The successful candidate will:

Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
Be available for all scheduled site openings.
Deal with the public in a professional manner.
Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, including lifting and moving materials up to 50 lbs.
Must have a cellular phone.
Provide own transportation to and from work site.

Light Equipment Operator (Wetaskiwin) Posting 2026/23

Position Summary

The County of Wetaskiwin No. 10 is seeking to fill one (1) permanent full-time Light Equipment Operator position based out of the Wetaskiwin Shop. Reporting to the Public Works Operations Foreman, the successful candidate will be required to perform road maintenance and construction work activities involving the operation of various forms of construction equipment, motor vehicles and specialized tools that includes light to medium trucks, skid steer, backhoe, boom truck, packers and hand tools.

This is a physically demanding position and the candidate will need to be physically fit in order to undertake various activities that include lifting and strenuous work at times. Hours of work are typically a 10-hour with a 30 minute lunch, the workday will commence at 7:00 a.m., or as required.

Requirements

Hold a Class 5 license with a clean driver’s abstract; a Class 3 license with Air Endorsement is preferred;
Be able to work independently with minimum supervision;
Be physically fit to meet the demands of operating various tools and equipment and working outdoors in extreme conditions;
Demonstrate an excellent aptitude for equipment maintenance and care;
Experience in operating light equipment; and
Participate and actively promote the County’s safe work practices and procedures and commit to delivering quality workmanship and efficiencies.

Compensation

The County of Wetaskiwin offers a strong corporate culture with the salary to be in accordance with the International Union of Operating Engineers Collective Agreement with an hourly wage ranging from $32.01 to $35.57 depending on experience.
