Wetaskiwin Rural Fire Protection Zone #2

The City of Wetaskiwin and County of Wetaskiwin are continuing the excellent regional cooperation established between them in the past with a proposed new partnership for the construction of two new fire halls located in the City of Wetaskiwin.

In 2005 the City of Wetaskiwin, County of Wetaskiwin and Wetaskiwin Rural Fire Protection Zone 2 Society entered into a 20 year Fire Protection agreement which demonstrated the long term commitment to the provision of fire protection services to the residents of the City and surrounding rural County area. Fire protection services will be further enhanced with the construction of the two fire halls, one on the east side of the city at 47th & 48th Avenue and 45th & 46th Street and one on the west side of the city at the corner of 40th Avenue & 60th Street. This will provide the best level of service to both communities.

The proposed $1.6 million dollar fire hall project will recieve funding jointly between the City and County through the Alberta Municipal Sponsorship Grant for Intermunicipal Projects in the amount of $420,000. The County of Wetaskiwin and the Rural Fire Society contributed an additional $390,000 and the balance is funded by the City of Wetaskiwin.

The purchase of a Quick Response Truck in 2007 will allow faster firefighting responses to areas not accessible with the current Pumper. A replacement of the current Pumper Unit in 2009 with a new Pumper will keep our firefighting equipment up to date.
