Weed Inspection Services

The Agricultural Service Board is responsible for enforcement of the Weed Control Act of Alberta. In the Act there are three designations of weeds. These designations include restricted, noxious and nuisance weeds.

Restricted Weeds are not prevalent in the Province of Alberta, however they do have the potential to create major economic impacts. There are 7 plants designated restricted in Alberta.

Noxious Weeds exist in Alberta and pose the risk of major financial loss if they are not controlled. There are 23 plants designated as noxious weeds.

Nuisance Weeds are those weeds that exist in Alberta and can easily be controlled. Examples of nuisance weeds are Wild Buckwheat and Wild Oats. There are 26 listed nuisance weeds in Alberta.
