Alberta Environmentally Sustainable Agriculture (AESA)

The Alberta Environmentally Sustainable Agriculture program is a partnership between the County of Wetaskiwin, Leduc County and the Province of Alberta, to promote the awareness and adoption of beneficial management practices.

Through activities such as community meetings, Growing Forward Initatives (helping producers complete a Long Term Water Managment Plan - LTWMP), Liquid Manure Application Pilot Initiative, Environmental Farm Plan workshops, riparian assessments, shelterbelt planning and planting, winter watering workshops and a tour of the winter watering sites, water quality monitoring along Bigstone and Pipestone Creeks, and on farm water quality testing, we are assisting landowners in becoming educated stewards of our land and water resources.

Workshops are held dealing with a wide arrange of topics that include manure and nutrient management, and riparian management strategies. The ASB News & Views is a newsletter that is prepared and distributed to producers throughout the counties to showcase information and upcoming events that are related to sustainable agriculture.

A farming system cannot be considered economically viable unless it is environmentally sustainable, and it is the goal of the AESA program to encourage proactive change towards long term sustainability.
