Please click "here" for the update from Alberta Transportation (AT) released on February 9, 2018.

"Alberta Transportation (AT) is anticipating that the repairs to the HWY 616 Overpass at HWY 2 will be completed this fall. The inspection started January 30th and should be completed January 31st. It is anticipated that within the next week there will be a proper solution to repair and a decision as to when the overpass will be reopen. AT assures that re-opening the overpass has their full attention and urgency. They are aware of the impacts this will have for emergency vehicles, businesses, residents and to access to Pigeon Lake. The damage caused by the collision was extensive and complicated by the fire. While AT understands the urgency of re-opening they need to make sure it can be done safely and that thorough inspections are undertaken.
Any resident concerns will be forwarded to Alberta Transportation."
(January 31, 2018 Update)

“Alberta Transportation is waiting for an appropriate temperature to remove some of the damaged concrete from the pier and the soot from the girders in order to complete the assessment of the full extent of the damage. The hope is to get this done next week and that will finalize the ultimate repair option.  As for the repair time frame, the anticipated completion is the fall of this year.”
(January 25, 2018 Update)

"“A thorough inspection and engineering assessment is currently underway to determine the extent of the damage and what is required to reopen Highway 616 to traffic. Highway 2 traffic may see some delays due to ongoing inspection and clean-up activities.”

Please use an alternate route. Further updates will be provided by Alberta Transportation on 511 Alberta - Alberta’s Official Road Reports web site and also posted on the County Website.
