In June 2005, construction began on the new South Pigeon Lake Emergency Services Centre, which is the home for the South Pigeon Lake Fire Department. The centre can also accommodates an ambulance, RCMP, and Community Peace Officer Services. The location on Highway 13 provides easy access for emergency crews.
On March 24, 2006 the South Pigeon Lake Fire Department moved into their new building.
This summer (2017) the South Pigeon Lake Fire Department and Mulhurst Fire Department will commence water rescue at Pigeon Lake. Funding for this service has been received through partnerships with the Summer Villages around Pigeon Lake, Community Groups and Leduc & Wetaskiwin Counties.
